  • Right on Schedule: Apple Announces Special Event for October 22: I have three small, hopefully reasonable hopes for next Tuesday:

    1. Apple allows pre-orders for the new 9.7" iPad (i.e. the iPad 5).
    2. Apple changes the storage tiers for the iPad 5 to 32/64/128Gb (as opposed to what they have now, which is 16/32/64/128Gb). It's past time for iOS device storage to start moving up. And I think most of the competition starts at 32Gb, so there is room for Apple to do this, for competitive reasons.
    3. Apple announces pricing for the new Mac Pro. This would let me start making concrete plans for what I might be buying this winter.

I don't think that's asking for too much, is it...? (and to be honest, I'm okay with #2 not coming true. That one is a bit of a stretch)

  • Spitballing Apple’s October Event: Some mostly reasonable speculation about next week's Apple event. However, I don't think there is any chance of the M7 showing up in any of the iPads. Based upon what I know of the M7, it provides a power-savings benefit by tracking the accelerometer during the times when the device is asleep. This is super-useful for a device that goes in your pocket, but not one that's laying around in your house.

Oh, and c'mon — new MacBook Pros are a total lock. (via Daring Fireball)

  • The San Francisco Exodus: I thought that this article, from Gabriel Metcalf, was a reasonably balanced take on what's going on with housing in San Francisco.

  • Apple’s New Retail Chief is a Watch Lady and More: Interesting speculation around Apple's new SVP of retail and the supposed iWatch. I'm still deeply skeptical of this all watch thing, but this is interesting grist for the rumor mill. In the meantime, I'm hoping that Angela Ahrendts really clicks with Apple, and does great things.

  • Carl Ichan's recent lunch with Tim Cook: Count me in with the camp that takes a dim view of Carl Ichan.
