  • Some Thoughts about the iPhone 5S Camera Improvements: Some cool analysis of the new iPhone camera, ahead of what will surely be Brian Klug's epic review.

  • The Most Forward Thinking Apple Yet: Some interesting thinking here by Sisir Koppaka. While I like the idea of a theoretical Apple TV with an A7 (or better) CPU and 8GB of RAM, there are still several barriers to entry for Apple really going after this market. HD games are large downlodas, that require a lot of storage space. So along with a ton of RAM, this theoretical Apple TV would need to have a lot of storage as well. At this point, cost-wise, it would cost pretty much the same as a PS4 or Xbox One. So, while it's more possible than ever for Apple to go after TV-based gaming in a serious way, I'm still skeptical that it's going to happen.

And don't even get me started on the watch. (via Daring Fireball)

  • FBI Admits It Controlled Tor Servers Behind Mass Malware Attack: The FBI is hacking into servers, and individual end-user PCs now, in order to go after criminals? That seems to be rather... mind-blowing.

  • Why Apple's 64-bit iPhone chip is a bigger deal than you think: I'm not trying to pick on The Verge here, but I'm deeply skeptical of this notion that Apple plans to release a MacBook with an ARM CPU. While I think the A7 looks like a pretty kick-ass CPU, I think it would be pretty under-whelming running Mac OS X. So, I'd file this story, and others like it, under "don't hold your breath".

  • Hugo Barra Talks About His Future at Xiaomi and Why He Left Google: Hugo Barra, on the goal of Xiaomi:

"There is no question the phone business is very low margin today, but they want to get to a place where they can sell the device at cost and then sell high-margin services to make that phone experience even better"
If Xiaomi (or some other company) can pull this off, it will be super-disruptive to Apple's business model with the iPhone. Something to keep an eye on.
