  • Review: The Bose SoundLink Mini is the best-sounding portable Bluetooth speaker…ever: I bought a SoundLink Mini a month ago, and I've been super-happy with it. For being so tiny, it's great at filling my small apartment with sound. It doesn't work so well outside, however. Still, if you're looking for a small, portable Bluetooth speaker, you can't go wrong with the SoundLink Mini.

  • Apple Begins Showing Mac Pro Teaser in Movie Theaters with 'Fall 2013' Announcement: I thought this was a hoax when I first read it, but apparently, this story is true. All along, I have been excited about the new Mac Pro, but have been dreading the cost. This definitely isn't a computer that should be advertised to the mass market -- so what the heck is Apple thinking here?

  • Mediocrity Creeps Back: A Review of iPhoto '11: Interesting look at the latest iPhoto, from someone formerly on the inside. Includes a great Steve Jobs anecdote at the end. (via Michael Tsai)

  • Defending iOS with cheap iPhones: The importance of this point can't be understated:

"If total Android engagement moves decisively above iOS, the fact that iOS will remain big will be beside the point – it will move from first to first-equal and then perhaps second place on the roadmap. And given the sales trajectories, that could start to happen in 2014. If you have 5-6x the users and a quarter of the engagement, you're still a more attractive market.

This is a major strategic threat for Apple. A key selling point for the iPhone (though not the only one) is that the best apps are on iPhone and are on iPhone first. If that does change then the virtuous circle of ‘best apps therefore best users therefore best apps’ will start to unwind and the wide array of Android devices at every price point will be much more likely to erode the iPhone base."

I think that the rumored "cheap" iPhone is real, but I'm worried that it won't be cheap enough. September 10th is going to be critical for Apple. (via Daring Fireball)
