All this has happened before: NVIDIA 3.0, ARM, and the fate of x86: Great stuff from Jon Stokes. Is Intel in trouble? There is a pretty strong "maybe" in there.
Intel Previews 32nm Itanium "Poulson" Processor: Hey alright, Intel has some awesome new CPUs... Wait, Itanium? I thought they killed that thing! It is amazing that Intel is still working on this thing — I can't believe that the addressable market is that big.
Notes of Interest on Thunderbolt and New MacBook Pros: I sincerely hope the lack of Mac Pro upgrades proves to be untrue.
Jerry Seinfeld's Productivity Secret: I can say, from past experience, that this is actually pretty good advice.
Apple: App Store Runs Just Above Break Even: I wonder if this will still be true after In-App Subscriptions take off? (via Michael Tsai)
Manton Reece: 30% of the future: I'm going to stop writing about this In-App Subscription thing soon, I promise. Until then, check out the always astute Manto Reece, who concludes:
"Apple's strength has always been selling a great product to end users — "the rest of us". The new Apple has fallen into the trap of thinking they should also be an advertising company and an overpriced payment processor. It's a slippery slope from here to becoming just another mega-corp that has their hands in everything that can make money instead of standing for something."
Couldn't agree more.
Apple Drops Build-to-Order RAM and Hard Drive Prices, Offers New RAM Options: Apple's has always gouged when it comes to adding RAM to their machines, but yesterday, they dropped some prices:
"On the low-end quad-core Mac Pro model, RAM pricing remains the same up to 8 GB, but Apple has reduced pricing on the 12 GB and 16 GB configurations from $1275 to $525 and $1775 to $775 respectively."
That is over a 50% reduction! And I'm sure you can still find cheaper memory, if you go to a reputable vendor such as OWC. Amazing.
