  • Franken goes ballistic on Verizon, Google, Comcast, and NBCU: Here's the money quote from Al Franken:

    "But there's an even bigger issue here. It's that when government will not act, corporations will. And unlike government agencies, which have a legal responsibility to protect American consumers, the only thing corporations care about, the only thing that they have a legal duty to promote, is their bottom line."

    True.

  • Why Intel bought McAfee: This was the big "head scratcher" from last week. Jon Stokes over at Ars Technica sheds some more light on this acquisition, but it still doesn't make a ton of sense to me. The claim is that McAfee is Intel buying their way into the software stack on people's computers. But this is only true for Windows computers — it completely ignores all Macs (where sales are growing!), iPads, Android devices, etc. It's not clear that a bet on McAfee is a strong bet on the future of computing.
