  • Analyst Speculates on Mac Pro and MacBook Air Updates, iTunes.com at WWDC: I have strong hope for updated Mac Pros, but like Ars, I'm dubious on the possibility of new MacBook Airs. If it does happen, my best guess would be an Air with the same CPU, but with faster graphics and more RAM, for the same price.

  • Android tablet prototypes not yet ready for prime time: Note to those waiting for a kick-ass Android tablet: good luck.

And this whole thing really shows how NVIDIA is screwed — they're making some kick-ass processors, but they're lacking a great software platform that can harness all of that power for users.

  • Whedon's "Horrible" Collection: Good interview with Zack Whedon. Contains a tidbit at the end about Joss potentially directing the upcoming "Avengers" movie.

  • Pain Is A Gift: Well-written piece by Daniel Jalkut:

"The risk to Apple is not in losing the masses, but in losing the faithful core. In their unchallenged position, Apple made a lot of right decisions, but they also made mistakes, particularly in the form of political moves that limit what developers can distribute on the platform. These restrictions are done in the name of quality control, but anybody who has browsed the App Store knows that all this autonomy has done little to stem the flow of trashy, embarrassing apps."

One implicit assumption, however, is that Apple cares about it's "core" users. Sure, those users kept the company alive in the past. But maybe Apple doesn't need them anymore. Steve Jobs changed the name of the company and trashed Macworld — it's clear that Apple is pursing a vision, not trying to cater to core users.

  • Intel tells users: you don't need future-proof GPUs: I cannot understand why Intel has been unable to produce a worth GPU after so many years of trying. Maybe this is why Apple is considering switching to AMD for some of their CPU needs?
