  • Steve Jobs on iPhone development taking resources away from Mac development: 'No': I can undersand "the fear" — I use my Macs way more than my iPhone. But I'm pretty sure that Mac OS X 10.5 got delayed due to shipping the original iPhone, and that worked out okay. But in general, my guess is that Mac OS X is going to get less and less love at Apple, as the iPhone OS continues to take off (and make fantastic profits).

  • Inside Apple's automatic graphics switching: Ars Technica has the goods:

"Apple's approach in the new 15" and 17" MacBook Pros differs from Optimus in two key ways. The first is that the switching is all handled automatically by Mac OS X without any user intervention (though there is actually a System Preference to deactivate it, if you choose). Apps that use advanced graphics frameworks such as OpenGL, Core Graphics, Quartz Composer or others will cause the OS to trigger the discrete GPU. So, when you are reading or writing Mail, or editing an Excel spreadsheet, Mac OS X will simply use the integrated Intel HD graphics. If you fire up Aperture or Photoshop, Mac OS X kicks on the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M."

I really hope this isn't buggy, although there has already been a patch.

  • Microsoft KIN hands-on: Great ideas in a teeny-bop package: There might be some redeeming features to these new phones from Microsoft, but what I really don't get, is the "why". Why is Microsoft doing Windows Phone 7, software-only, and these KIN phones, where they are doing the device and the software. It just doesn't make any sense.

  • Twitter Has a Plan to Make Money With Ads: The ads ("promoted tweets") shown on search could be pretty useful. Not sure how I feel about ads being inserted into my tweet stream, however. I'll have to wait and see.
