  • The Moderate's Position on iPad Openness: I find Alex Payne to be pretty reasonable here. I wasn't too sure of #3, the private API thing, because as John Gruber points out, private APIs have value. But after today's post from Marco Arment, I think I'm on board with that, too.

  • How “Dirty” MP3 Files Are A Back Door Into Cloud DRM: I just checked a recent file that I bought from iTunes:

    intension:~/Music/Broken Bells/Broken Bells$ strings -10 01\ The\ High\ Road.m4a |egrep '(name|@po)'
    nameAndrew Reitz
    ajr9@po.cwru.edu

So, this seems true to me. (BTW, Broken Bells is pretty darn good. Thanks Kris).

  • An interview with David Heinemeier Hansson : The Setup: Nice, short interview with David Heinemeir Hansson (Ruby On Rails, 37signals), includes this at the end:

"I'd also wish that these latest Apple devices wouldn't require me to ask permission to develop for them. That feels like a huge step back when you're used to the openness of the web. It's so liberating to be able to develop whatever the hell you want and put it out there without being subject to any scrutiny but that of the purchasing public. That's one of the big reasons I haven't bothered looking into iPhone/iPad development myself."
I'm starting to come around to this opinion myself. But I don't expect Apple to change any time soon, if at all.

  • File Sharing with an iPad: Ugh!: It looks like there are definitely some rough edges with the iPad, specifically with document sharing.
