Finding the OS X Turbo Button at Vladimir Vukićević: My thoughts on this - if the hidden API calls are needed for Safari (a web browser running on OS X), then they should be available to Firefox as well (a web browser running on OS X). Apple seems to be receptive to opening these calls, but it's still kindof strange that they're arguing that Safari should be able to use non-public API calls.
